The photo excursion event is scheduled for Friday and Saturday mornings during the conference. You can wander New Harmony with a map in hand or work with a local partner that will give you a guided tour of the community. Either way, you are encouraged to make photographs that document this small town, its people, and the river bottom landscape that sits on the shores of the Wabash River. Your aesthetic sensibilities will create a rich collaboration with this community. Although the specific timing is set during the morning hours, participants can and should be photographing New Harmony at all times of the day and night throughout the weekend.
Loaner equipment will be available from Sony and Tamron, giving photographers an opportunity to try out the newest camera models and lenses. Gear can start to be checked out by 8am each day and participants are welcome to exchange gear throughout the day. Final turn in times will be at 2:30pm on Friday and 5:00pm on Saturday.
We will be publishing a book about our time in New Harmony!
University of Southern Indiana faculty member, Dr. Greg Blair will curate and design the book for MWSPE and our conference participants. After publication all participants will get a copy of the book and MWSPE will donate the book and reproduction rights to the Town and Working Men’s Institute (historical society). This book project is made possible by the New Harmony Outreach and Engagement Grant at USI.
Participants can submit images from their New Harmony experience by November 15, 2024 to this form. Images may be retouched as the artist deems necessary and should be saved as 8”x10” 300ppi JPEG files. Please name your file Lastname_Firstname_Image Title_Affiliated school. You will also have to fill out and sign a copy of the Image submission form with image information and publication rights as found in the Google Drive.
