Does the Land Remember?
Land is contentious; we fight wars over it, we claim to own it, and then manipulate it for our use. When I moved onto new property, sharing ground with native histories, I encountered an ancient energy. I began to think about our place in time, reflecting––whose land it is anyway. Even though I hold the deed, in my heart I know that I don’t own this land.
Are the peoples who have come before encrusted in these hills? Does the land, eretz, remember? If so, how are the memories and energies released, and will I become the silt of its history? In my project I seek answers to these questions.
I will present this work, which is a prayer that we will reflect on our relationship to the land that we inhabit, and our larger obligation to Earth.  Only then can we have peace upon it.
